Chocolate Chip and Orange Scones

An interesting take on the common scone! These are delicious served hot.

  1. Preheat the oven to Gas Mark 7. Grease a baking sheet.
  2. Sift the flour and baking powder into a bowl. Add the butter, cut into small pieces and rub in with the fingertips until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.
  3. Stir in the chocolate, sugar and orange rind.
  4. Add the orange juice and milk and stir to make a soft dough.
  5. Turn it out onto a lightly floured surface and roll out to 2cm thick. Use a 6cm cutter to cut out rounds.
  6. Transfer to the baking sheet and cook for 12 minutes until well risen and pale golden. Transfer to a wire rack to cool.
