Chewy Oatmeal Cookies

Ingredients
- 1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
- 3⁄4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1⁄4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 eggs
- 1 1⁄3 cups firmly packed brown sugar
- 3⁄4 cup shortening
- 2 cups rolled oats (Do not use quick oats)
Directions
- Sift together flour, baking soda, salt, and spices into a bowl.
- Add shortening, sugar, eggs, and vanilla, beat until smooth (about 2 minutes).
- Stir in oats.
- Drop by heaping teaspoons onto greased cookie sheet.
- Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 12-15 minutes.
