Cheesy Garlicky Grits

Ingredients
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup water
- 1⁄8 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1⁄2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 cup coarsely ground grits
- 1⁄2 teaspoon fresh ground pepper
- 4 tablespoons salted butter
- 1 cup freshly shredded sharp cheddar cheese
Directions
- Place the buttermilk, garlic powder, and salt into a medium pot over medium-high heat and bring to a boil.
- Whisk in grits, avoiding lumps, cover and reduce heat to low.
- Cook for 20 minutes.
- In the last minute, add the pepper, butter, and cheese and whisk until melted and combined.
