Cheddar Cheese Pie Pastry

I found this recipe in a very old Farm Journal Best Ever Pies Cookbook in 1980. This is perfect with Apple Pie or Pear Pie Filling. Show more

Yields: 2 pie crusts

Ingredients

  • 2  cups flour
  • 1 14 cups  shredded cheddar cheese
  • 12 teaspoon salt
  • 23 cup  Crisco
  • 2  tablespoons sugar
  • 5 -6  tablespoons  ice water

Directions

  1. Combine flour, cheese and salt in large bowl.
  2. Cut in shortening until coarse crumbs form.
  3. Sprinkle water into mixture a tablespoon at a time. Press dough with one hand adding water until a ball forms.
  4. Let chill 1 hour.
  5. This recipe will make 1 (2 crust) 8 or 9 inch pie. Bake according to pie directions.
  6. This also works well in food processor.
