Caramel Bars

Ingredients
- 1 1⁄2 cups flour
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 1⁄2 cups oatmeal (either kind)
- 1 cup butter (melted) or 1 cup margarine (melted)
- 1⁄4 teaspoon salt
- 3⁄4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 (14 ounce) bag caramels
- 8 tablespoons milk or 8 tablespoons cream
- 1 cup chocolate chips
Directions
- Mix above ingredients together (flour through baking soda) and press into bottom of 9 x 13" cake pan. Reserve about 1 1/3°C of crumbs for top.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 10 - 15 minutes (I bake for 10 minutes) until light brown.
- Meanwhile: Unwrap and melt 1 bag of caramels with 8 Tbs. of cream (I use milk) in microwave on medium - low temperature
- Sprinkle 1 - 1 1/4°C chocolate chips over baked crust (no need to cool) and pour caramel mixture over top.
- Add reserved crumbs by sprinkling over and bake at 350 degrees for 15 - 20 minutes (I bake for 15 minutes) more.
- Cool before cutting.
