Butterscotch Brownies

Found this in one of my cookbooks that is from the Amish.

Serves: 4-5

Yields: 20 brownies

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees, and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan, set aside.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  3. Add brown sugar, and stir 1-2 minutes, or until a thick peanut butter like consistancy.
  4. Remove from heat, and stir in the beaten egg, and vanilla, followed by the flour, salt, and baking powder.
  5. Once combined, stir in the nuts.
  6. Spread the batter into prepared pan and bake until the edges begin to brown.and a toothpick inserted comes out clean, about 25-30 minutes.
  7. Cut into 2 x 2 inch squares while warm and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
