Buttermilk Chocolate Chip Cookies

The buttermilk adds a wonderful flavor to ordinary chocolate chip cookies.

  1. Cream together shortening and sugars.
  2. Beat in eggs.
  3. Add vanilla.
  4. Sift together flour and soda.
  5. Add dry ingredients, alternately with buttermilk to creamed mixture.
  6. Stir in chocolate chips and walnuts.
  7. Drop by teaspoon about 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheets.
  8. Put 1/2 walnut on top of each cookie.
  9. Bake in 350° degree oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until done.
  10. Remove from sheet and cool on racks.
