Butter and Lentil Rice (Burma)

  1. Drain the dal and rinse the basmati rice until the water runs clear. Put the rice in a pot and layer the soaked dal on top. Add the remaining ingredients and the water.
  2. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and cover. Simmer for 15 to 20 minutes or until all the water has been absorbed.
  3. Let rest for five minutes before serving.
