  1. Preheat oven to 350.
  2. Beat butter and sugar together, then add vanilla, beating again.
  3. Add flour and salt, stirring until dough forms a ball.
  4. Roll dough out to 1/2 inch thickness.
  5. Cut into 1x3 inch pieces or use shaped cutters.
  6. Prick with a fork.
  7. Place on ungreased baking sheets.
  8. Bake 22-24 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Cool on a wire rack.
