Brown and Serve Rolls

Home made dinner rolls. Make up a batch and have rolls ready when you are.

  1. Stir together 3 cups flour, sugar, yeast and salt in a large mixer bowl.
  2. Heat water, milk and butter until very warm (120 to 130F).
  3. Add liquid ingredients to flour mixture; beat until smooth, about 3 minutes on high speed with mixer.
  4. Gradually stir in more flour to make a soft dough.
  5. Turn out onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic (5 to 8 minutes).
  6. Shape dough into a ball, place in an oiled bowl, and turn to oil top of dough.
  7. Cover; let rise in a warm place 30 to 45 minutes until double in bulk.
  8. Punch dough down, divide in half.
  9. Shape each half into rolls.
  10. Let rise in a warm place 30 to 45 minutes until double in bulk.
  11. Bake at 375' degrees F 20 to 25 minutes just until rolls begin to change color.
  12. Cool in pans 20 minutes.
  13. Finish cooling on wire racks.
  14. Place in plastic bags and refrigerate up to 1 week or freeze.
  15. Before serving, place (thawed if frozen) rolls on ungreased baking sheet.
  16. Bake 400' degrees F 10 to 12 minutes.
