Bread Pudding

This is another one of those "old family recipes" that every family has a favorite version of.

Serves: 6

Ingredients

  • 2  eggs, well beaten
  • 12 cup sugar
  • 2  cups milk
  • 12-1  teaspoon vanilla (to taste)
  • 14 teaspoon ground nutmeg (to taste)
  • 12 teaspoon ground cinnamon (to taste)
  • 4  cups  day old  bread or 4  cups  plain  cake, cut into 1/2 inch cubes
  • 14-12 cup raisins
  •  butter, to grease pan
  •  whipped cream or  ice cream, for topping (optional)

Directions

  1. Beat into the eggs, the sugar, milk, vanilla, nutmeg and cinnamon.
  2. Butter a 1 1/2 quart baking dish.
  3. Put bread cubes into buttered dish, pour egg mixture over bread.
  4. Let stand until bread is thoroughly soaked.
  5. Mix in the raisins.
  6. Bake at 350°F for about 25 minutes.
  7. Serve warm with a dollop of whipped cream or scoop of ice cream.
