Bread and Butter Pickles

Ingredients
- 1 quart sliced cucumber
- 1 bell pepper, chopped
- 1 cup sugar
- 3 cloves
- 1 slice onion
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1 teaspoon celery seed
- 1 1⁄2 cups vinegar
- 1⁄2 cup salt (for soaking cucumbers)
Directions
- Let cucumbers stand in salted water (about 1/2 cup) for 2 or more hours.
- Drain and rinse.
- Stir all dry ingredients together.
- Add vinegar.
- Pour over cucumber and bell peppers.
- Boil 5 minutes. Pack in jars.
