Boiled Raisin Cookies

This is my grandmothers recipe. It is my dads favorite, and I always make them for him on his birthday. It is the only one I have ever seen that uses shortening instead of butter. Show more

  1. Boil water and raisins together just until softened, about 5 minutes.
  2. Cream shortening and sugar together. Gradually add eggs.
  3. Sift together flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder and cinnamon.
  4. Gradually add flour mixture to the sugar mixture until thoroughly combined.
  5. Add water from the raisins and mix. Stir in raisins.
  6. Drop in spoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375º for approximately 10-12 minutes.
