  1. Cream the butter with sugar.
  2. Add the egg and beat thoroughly.
  3. Sift the flour with baking powder and salt.
  4. Add the dry ingredients alternately with the milk to the creamed butter mixture.
  5. Add the walnuts and flavoring.
  6. Mix thoroughly and pour into a shallow, well-oiled baking pan.
  7. Bake in moderate oven (375°F) for 30 minutes.
