  1. Place beans in a large pot, add enough cold water to cover beans by 3 inches.
  2. Bring to a boil.
  3. Remove from heat, and cover and let stand 2 hours.
  4. Drain.
  5. Heat oil in heavy large pot over med-high heat.
  6. Add onions, carrots, and celery, and sauté until tender (about 8 minutes)
  7. Add tomato paste, cumin and coriander.
  8. Reduce to medium and cook 10 minutes add wine and simmer 5 minutes
  9. Add drained beans and broth.
  10. Cover and simmer until beans are tender (about 2 hours) – season soup with salt and pepper.
