Big Chocolate Chip Cookies

I'm not much of a baker, but these cookies were very easy to make. I got the recipe from the Special Edition of Better Homes and Gardens cookbook. Show more

  1. Preheat oven to 375. In a large mixing bowl beat shortening and butter with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Add brown sugar, and baking soda. Beat until mixture is combined, scraping sides of bowl occasionally. Beat in eggs and vanilla until combined. Beat in half of the flour with the mixer. Stir in the remaining flour with a wooden spoon. Stir in chocolate pieces.
  2. Drop dough by a 1/4 cup measure or scoop about four inches apart onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 11 to 13 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Transfer to a wire rack and let cool. Makes about 20 big cookies.
