Beef Satay

I have been making this low-fat recipe for years. My family loves it and the numerous guests I have made it for also love it. The beef has a ton of flavor and is best served with peanut sauce. You will find a good peanut sauce recipe of you look up Creamy Asian Peanut Sauce on recipezaar. Show more

Directions

  1. Cut the flank steak in half lengthwise and put in freezer for 30 minutes (to firm).
  2. Combine soy sauce, oil, chili sauce, brown sugar, cilantro, garlic, and scallions in measuring cup, set aside.
  3. Remove the flank steak from freezer and slice each piece across the grain into 1/4-inch-thick strips. Weave the meat onto bamboo skewers (should make about 24 skewers).
  4. Dunk the meat ends of the skewers into marinade to coat; lay the skewers in a shallow dish and pour remaining marinade over top. Refrigerate for exactly 1 hour.
  5. You can either grill the beef OR adjust oven rack to top position and heat broiler. Lay the skewers on a wire rack set over a rimmed baking sheet and cover skewer end with foil. Broil for 6 to 7 minutes, flipping the skewers over half way through, until meat is browned.
  6. Serve immediately with peanut sauce.
