Basic Butter Cake & Buttercream Frosting

Great cake to make into kids birthday cakes, numbers or the like. Easy to make

  1. Preheat oven to moderate.
  2. Grease & line pan(s).
  3. Beat butter, vanilla and sugar in small bowl until light and fluffy; beat in eggs one at a time.
  4. Stir in flour and milk (in 2 batches).
  5. Spread into tin, and cook for approximately 25 - 35 minutes (until skewer comes away clean).
  6. Let stand for 5 minutes, then turn onto wire rack.
  7. Serves 6.
  8. FROSTING.
  9. Beat butter in small bowl until as white as possible, gradually beat in half the icing sugar, milk, then remaining icing sugar.
  10. Add flavoring and coloring as required.
