Barbecue Hamburger (Sloppy Joe Style)

This is a recipe my mom had found in the Detroit News back in the 70's. It's been modified over the years to suit our tastes. It's a family (and company) favorite. It's easy to stretch and double, and it's made with things most of us have on hand in our cupboard. Try it with your favorite potato dish. Other ways to enjoy this mixture: use a TB or two in an Omlette. Also makes a zesty topping for Nachos or mixed with your favorite beans to make an awesome bbq burrito. ENJOY! Show more

Directions

  1. 1. Brown Hamburger, drain fat.
  2. 2. Stir in remaining ingredients breaking up hamburger into tiny pieces as you mix.
  3. 3. Simmer on medium until a thick sauce forms (about 15-20 minutes).
  4. 4. While sauce simmers, slice your buns and toast face-up on a cookie sheet, in a 250 degree oven for about 7 minutes or until crisp on the outside. (These are particularily tasty when served on on Onion Buns or Dutch Crunch rolls).
  5. 5. Add about 2 heaping TB to each bun.
