Baked Fudge Dessert

This a recipe I found in my mom's cookbook. I've never tried it but it does sound wonderful and pretty easy to make. The cooking time is an estimate, since my mother only wrote "until done". Show more

  1. Sift the first five ingredients together, before stirring in the nuts.
  2. Make a well in the centre and add the milk, vanilla and melted shortening.
  3. Stir lightly and pour into a greased 1 1/2 quart casserole dish.
  4. For the topping, beat the ingredients together and pour over the batter.
  5. Bake at 350 F until done.
  6. Serve with whipped cream.
