My mother made this recipe for Christmas every year and even people who HATE grits always came back for seconds! DELICIOUS! Show more

Ready In: 1 hr 5 mins

Serves: 8

Ingredients

  • 4  cups milk (Whole is best, 2% is fine.)
  • 1  cup quick-cooking grits
  • 34 cup butter (I recommend real butter.)
  • 12 cup  grated parmesan cheese
  • 1  triangle  Laughing Cow cheese (I sometimes use 1 C of shredded sharp cheddar instead.)
  • 12 teaspoon salt

Directions

  1. Barely bring milk to a boil, add grits slowly stirring the whole time. Cook time for grits may vary so follow the time on the quick cooking grits box.
  2. When grits are done, add 3/4 stick of butter, add cheese slowly and add the salt.
  3. Pour into a 13x9 pan.
  4. **VERY IMPORTANT** Let the grits cool, either sitting on the counter top or in the fridge.
  5. Once cool, poke holes in the top of the grits (I use the tip of a spoon).
  6. Melt the remaining butter and pour on top of the grits.
  7. Top with the grated parmesan cheese.
  8. Bake for 40 minutes at 400 degrees.
