Backpacking Curry
Ready In: 8 hrs 15 mins
Serves: 4
Yields: 4 dehydrated meals
Ingredients
- 1 cup instant brown rice
- 1 cup water
- 2 tablespoons better than bouillon (chicken or vegetable flavor)
- 1 (15 ounce) can spinach
- 2 tablespoons curry powder
- 1 tablespoon dried onion
- 1 dash turmeric
- 14 ounces foil packed chicken
Directions
- Combine rice, water and Better than Bullion in a saucepan. Heat to a boil and then reduce heat to medium, cover and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Add spinach (drained), curry powder, dried onion, and turmeric and stir.
- Spread mixture in dehydrator and dry for 8 hours at 145 degrees. I split the meal into 4 portions and put one portion on each tray of the dehydrator, but that is not necessary.
- After 8 hours, check to see if the food is dry-your drying time may vary.
- Split the mix into 4 portions and put them in one quart ziploc freezer bags. Note that you need to use freezer bags, not storage bags.
- When you are in the wilderness, add 3.5 oz of chicken to each bag and add boiling water to an inch above the food and place in a cozy for 15-20 minutes. Rehydration time will vary depending on how cold it is and how well insulated your cozy is.
