Aunt Esther's Bread Pudding

Serves: 6-8

Ingredients

  • 3  cups  soft breadcrumbs (can use 3 cups of soft bread cubes instead)
  • 2  cups milk
  • 14 cup butter
  • 12 cup sugar
  • 2  eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1  teaspoon cinnamon
  • 12 cup raisins (optional)

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Place bread crumbs in 1-1/2 quart baking dish. Scald 1/4 cup butter in 2 cups milk. Blend in all remaining ingredients (the scalded milk/butter mixture, the sugar, the eggs, cinnamon and raisins) in the baking dish. Place baking dish in pan of hot water (with water 1 inch) deep) in the preheated oven. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until a butter knife inserted 1 inch from the edge comes out clean. Serve warm with milk or cream if desired.
