Applesauce Chocolate Chip Brownies

I love brownies, especially brownies that have the right blend of chocolate chips & a gooey brownie texture. This recipe was created using a combination of recipes when I didn't have any cocoa powder and was in the mood for some brownies without a lot of extra fat. Serves: 4-6

Ingredients

  • 1 (4 ounce) container applesauce
  • 1  cup sugar
  • 2  tablespoons margarine (I use Brummell and Brown)
  • 1.25 (12 ounce) bags  semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 3  egg whites
  • 14 teaspoon baking soda
  • 12 teaspoon salt
  • 1  teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 14 cups flour

Directions

  1. Heat applesauce, sugar, margarine, and chocolate chips over low-medium heat in saucepan until partly melted. Do NOT heat until smooth. There should still be visible chocolate chips in batter. In separate mixing bowl, mix flour, baking soda, salt, and flour. Add eggs and vanilla to mixture and blend. Add cooled chocolate mixture and mix. Pour batter into greased 9.5 inch pie pan or comparable. Bake 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until done.
