Ingredients
- 3 -4 lbs apples, peeled, cored, and quartered (granny smith, fuji, or gravenstein apples, or a combination of all three.)
- 4 slices lemon peel
- 1 lemon, juice of
- 3 inches cinnamon sticks
- 1⁄4 cup dark brown sugar
- 1⁄2 cup white sugar (up to 1/2 cup)
- 1 cup water
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
Directions
- Put all ingredients into a large pot. Cover. Bring to boil. Lower heat and simmer for 20-30 minutes and remove from heat. Remove cinnamon sticks and lemon peels. Mash with potato masher.
- Ready to serve, either hot or refrigerated. Delicious with vanilla ice cream.
- Freezes easily, lasts up to one year in a cold freezer.
