Apple Wheat Bread (Bread Machine)

Light but hearty bread machine recipe with apples and nice spices. Found this on another web site and it was credited as originally coming from The Ultimate Bread Machine Cookbook. I added more yeast and slightly more apples. The crust is a bit crunchy, which I like.

• Yields: 1 loaf

Ingredients

• 2 1⁄2 teaspoons  yeast
• 2 2⁄3 cups bread flour
• 1⁄3 cup whole wheat flour
• 1  teaspoon cinnamon
• 1⁄4 teaspoon nutmeg
• 1 1⁄2 teaspoons salt
• 2  tablespoons brown sugar
• 4  tablespoons powdered milk
• 1  tablespoon butter or 1  tablespoon margarine
• 1⁄2 cup water (plus 3 tablespoons)
• 1  cup apple, tart, chopped and peeled (around 2 apples)
• 1  teaspoon lemon juice

Directions

1. Place ingredients in bread machine in the order recommended for your machine. Medium setting, 1 1/2 or 2 pound loaf setting. I used the 2 pound setting when I made it.
