Apple Spice Custard Cake

This is from and Eagle Brand newsletter. I have not tried but thought it sounded very good. I bet it would be great with coffee. Show more

Serves: 12-15

Yields: 1 cake

Ingredients

  • 1 (18 ounce) package  spice cake mix
  • 3  eggs (or as called for by your cake mix)
  • 13 cup  oil (or as called for by your cake mix)
  • 1 13 cups water (or as called for by your cake mix)
  • 2  medium apples, peeled and chopped
  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk, Eagle Brand (NOT evaporated milk)
  • 1 (8 ounce) container sour cream
  • 14 cup lemon juice
  •  ground cinnamon (optional)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F
  2. Prepare cake mix according to package directions.
  3. Stir in apples.
  4. Pour batter into well-greased and floured 13x9-inch baking pan.
  5. Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until toothpick inserted near center comes out clean.
  6. In medium bowl, combine EAGLE BRAND® and sour cream; mix well.
  7. Stir in lemon juice.
  8. Remove cake from oven; spread sour cream mixture evenly over hot cake.
  9. Return to oven, bake 5 minutes or until set.
  10. Sprinkle with cinnamon (optional).
  11. Cool. Chill. Store leftovers covered in refrigerator.
