Apple Muffins with Sauce

A friend gave me this recipe. These muffins are sweet and nutty, delicious with the sauce on them.

Ingredients

• Muffins

• 1  tablespoon butter
• 1  cup brown sugar
• 1  egg
• 1  cup flour
• 1⁄8 teaspoon salt
• 2  tablespoons boiling water
• 1  teaspoon baking soda
• 1  teaspoon vanilla
• 1  cup  peeled and diced tart apple
• 1⁄2 cup  chopped walnuts or 1⁄2 cup pecans

• Sauce

• 1  cup brown sugar
• 2  tablespoons flour
• 1⁄2 cup boiling water
• 4  tablespoons butter
• 1  teaspoon vanilla

Directions

1. Muffins: Combine all ingredients in order given.
2. Fill greased muffin tins 2/3 full.
3. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes.
4. Sauce: Mix brown sugar and flour together in small saucepan.
5. Add water, butter, and vanilla.
6. Cook over medium-low heat until thickened.
7. Serve hot sauce over muffins.
