Apple Cranberry Dumplings

Ingredients
- 5 medium granny smith apples, diced
- 1 cup whole berry cranberry sauce
- 1⁄2 cup chopped walnuts, toasted
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1⁄2 cup shortening
- 3⁄4 cup milk
- 2 cups water
- 2 cups sugar
- 1⁄2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1⁄2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1⁄2 cup butter or 1⁄2 cup margarine
Directions
- Stir together first three ingredients; drain. Combine flour and next three ingredients. cut in shortening with pastry blender till crumbly; add milk, stirring till dry ingredients are moist. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface; knead 3-4 times. Roll dough into a 18 x 12 inch rectangle. spread apple mixture over dough. roll up, jeelyroll fashion, starting at short end. Cut into 1 inch slices, and place, cut side down, in a greased 13 x 9 pan. Bring 2 cups water and next 3 ingredients to boil in pan; boil 5 minutes. Remove from heat, and stir in butter. pour hot syrup over dumplings. Bake 425 for 35-40 minutes. Serve warm.
