Apple Cinnamon Scone

Basic scone with apples and sprinkled with cinnamon

  1. Preheat oven to 425.
  2. In a large bowl sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cream of tartar. mix in brown sugar.
  3. Grate chilled butter and incorporate in 2 or 3 batches.
  4. Peal and core apple, and chop into small chunks. Add apples and lemon zest to flour and stir.
  5. Add cream, combine. Be careful not to over stir or knead.
  6. Turn contents of bowl onto floured board. By hand, pat together into a 6"x 6"square with uniform thickness. Cut into quarters and then cut each quarter diagonally.
  7. Cover jelly roll pan with parchment paper. Space scones evenly on tray, brush with cream and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.
  8. Bake for 15 - 20 minutes or until lightly brown on top.
