Apple Cake With Hot Sauce

Ingredients
- 3⁄4 cup shortening
- 1 1⁄2 cups sugar
- 3 eggs
- 2 1⁄2 cups sifted flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 1⁄2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup nuts (chopped)
- 1 1⁄2 cups soft raisins
- 1 1⁄2 cups apples (chopped)
HOT SAUCE
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 cup water
- 3⁄8 cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup butter
- 1 dash salt
Directions
- Cream sugar, shortening and eggs together.
- Then combine the dry ingredients including the coffee.
- Add raisins, nuts and apples; blend well.
- Pour into a greased 9x13x2-inch pan.
- Bake for 40-50 minutes at 350°.
- Now for the Hot Sauce: Cook the sugars, water and cornstarch together until dissolved and slightly thickened.
- Add vanilla, butter& salt and blend until butter is melted. Serve over apple cake.
