Apple Cake

This is one of my favorite cakes. You can add more apples if you like, and almost any variety will do. If you want the apples to stay crisp after baking, use something like Granny Smith apples. You can also use other nuts for the topping, such as pecans. Preparation time does not include dicing the apples. Show more

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Cream shortening and sugar, add flour mixture, milk, egg, and vanilla. Mix well.
  4. Fold in diced apples.
  5. Pour into baking dish.
  6. Mix together topping ingredients and spread over cake batter, bake for about 40 minutes.
