Almost anything tastes better than store bought croutons, hence "anything goes". I've made this with any bread product hanging out in my freezer; bread, hot dog or hamburger buns, even pita bread. Show more

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 425, or just put on the broiler and watch the croutons very closely.
  2. Cube the bread, rolls, buns or cut the pita. If using pita bread cut into about 1 inch pieces.
  3. ( the amount of "bread" is equivalent to 3 hot dog buns cut into cubes).
  4. Spread in 1 layer on shallow pan or cookie sheet.
  5. Drizzle olive oil over all the pieces.
  6. Sprinkle the garlic powder over all the pieces.
  7. Sprinkle with a couple grinds of fresh ground pepper.
  8. Put in oven for 5 minutes, take out and stir, replace in oven for 3-5 more minutes; watch to avoid burning.
  9. Take out and let cool. If soft the drying will firm them up but they will still be slightly soft when serving.
