Another Recipe for Hush Puppies

Grandma had two recipes in her box for hush puppies, so she must have really liked them. The cooking time is an estimation.

Ingredients

• 1  tablespoon baking powder
• 1⁄2 cup cornmeal
• 1⁄2 cup flour
• 1⁄4 teaspoon salt
• 1  teaspoon sugar (optional)
• 1  egg
• 5  tablespoons milk
• 2  tablespoons  grated onions

Directions

1. Sift flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt and sugar.
2. Beat the egg; add milk and grated onion.
3. Stir liquid into dry mixture all at once and drop by teaspoonfuls into deep fat (400 F).
4. Fry and turn until golden brown.
5. Drain on paper toweling.
