Lithuanian food is very healthy indeed (lots of vegies) and... bit boring. So my favorite become Oriental cuisine, Thai in particular. Here are few simple rules I follow to avoid major "whoops": 1. I don't ever mix two leading but similar flavors (like onion and garlic) in one dish, its all about balancing out one; 2. Wherever you put sugar, a pinch of salt must be added and vice versa, even if its a milkshake; 3. No premixed spices (except curry); 4. Cooking (ingredients and time) is like makeup: too little is generally better than too much; 5. Only one heavy carbohydrate per dish: so you never put say, potatoes and flour in the same. 6. And never attempt cooking in a bad mood or when stuffed. Have fun!
