My name is Mandy and I am a 24 year old student and housewife living in Tyler, Texas. I've been married for three years to a wonderful man who is 10 years older than me and has taught me a lot about cooking. I have always enjoyed cooking and baking for my family but now that I am married, I am constanly trying to improve as well as experimenting with new recipes. I also enjoy all things crafty, some favorite things being beading, knitting, scrapbooking, card making, revamping flea market finds, and just about every other craft there is. I recieved my very first cookbook, Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse Cookbook, when I was five and learned all the basics (scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, tuna salad) from it. My favorite cookbook right now is the Rains County Genealogical Society Cookbook that my husband's grandmother gave to me for Christmas. It has a lot of recipes submitted by my husband's family members as well as people from the community. The reason it's my favorite is because a lot of the recipes in it bring back memories of my own great grandmother's cooking. Of course I like the fancier recipes a la Rachel Ray and Emeril, but there's something so wonderful about making something that your great great grandmother used to make for her family. I'll always be looking for the tastiest recipes of home cookin' classics like chicken fried steak, pumpkin pie, fried okra, pancakes, you understand what I mean.
