I come from a family of good cooks. Mom, Aunts, Grandmothers - all good, basic cooks. But I'm the adventurous one. I've taken the basics they've taught me and stepped it up. I grow my own fresh herbs and love to cook with them. I watch a lot of the Food Network shows. Mostly what I take away from the shows are methods, flavor profiles, etc. Unless it's baking, I usually use a recipe as a basic guideline for flavor combinations and amounts, such as how much liquid component to a sauce vs the tickening agent. Then I put my own twist on it.
