I've been cooking and baking since I was about 10, but I started getting really serious about cooking when I went vegetarian at 21. I spent six months in China, during which time I went full-blown omni, but now that I'm back in the States I only occasionally eat chicken or fish if I go out to eat, and I don't EVER cook with meat. I love ethnic food of any kind, but Indian food especially has my heart. Despite my Scandinavian-Germanic heritage, I've got a good stomach for spicy food, and it takes a loooot for my eyes to start watering. Also, I'm a carb-aholic. Screw you, Atkins! I bake occasionally, too. After a tough day at work, I like to bake cookies to bring the next day, which makes me pretty popular among the coworkers. Development issues and politics are my passion, but I also throw around the idea of owning a cafe or small bakery someday, too, a la Maggie Gyllenhaal's character in "Stranger Than Fiction." My food role model is Isa Chandra Moskovitz, who is adorable and punk rock and makes amazing food while sticking it to The Man at the same time.
