I have cleared my cache and I still cannot sign in!
July 16, 2010 2:44pm
I HATE that when you go back to a recipe that you have already reviewed and your review isn't there at the right hand side like it was before the switch over.
July 16, 2010 2:53pm
Thank you for the update - I have been through a number of IT-type changes for work, and things never seem to be quite right initially. We'll all be looking forward to the day we can truly pop the cork regarding the launch!
July 16, 2010 3:54pm
@Kitten — you're commenting here so you're signed in! Something else is up. Keep working w/ us through email.
July 16, 2010 3:55pm
@duonyte — totes! Right now, I feel like beating myself over the head with the champagne bottle. But soon enough we'll be drinkin a toast to ultimate recipe and food community domination. Can't wait to meet you all at the table!
July 16, 2010 4:35pm
Thank you for the update Kristine and I'll pass the word. I knew it would take awhile to work out the bugs. I have found out that I am addicted to this site though...this is going to be a tough few days.
On the upside, I'm getting tons done around the house!
July 16, 2010 5:31pm
Thanks for the update!

July 16, 2010 7:06pm
I like the new format. Still trying to get used to all the new things but I like the look. I still like Recipezaar better for a name but change is good (so I'm told).
July 16, 2010 7:51pm
Thanks for the update! Really missing the forums. I'm a lucky one, I can see my cookbooks.
July 16, 2010 8:02pm
Okay, Now I'm unhappy. I just got a Food-mail from a good friend letting me know her Dad passed away. We've been supporting her though a difficult time and now when she really needs us, we can't be there for her.
July 16, 2010 8:30pm
I thought I was the only one not seeing my review to the right of the recipe....glad to know it really isn't there. I really rely on my reviews when I bring up a recipe to make after a while. Also, in my cookbook, my private notes don't show up unless I change it to "print" mode. That really slows down getting through the recipes if I am looking for something specific. Sorry to be a complainer.......but I'm trying to patiently wait for the changes, and am hoping these changes aren't permanent. Donna
July 16, 2010 8:46pm
Kristine all is okay now... THANK YOU!! one more thing my review notifications that you send for reviews on my recipes... the link does not take me to the recipe
July 16, 2010 8:56pm
Okay, good to know, Kitten — I'll note it!
July 16, 2010 9:16pm
waiting for the day that i can actually see the sign in avatar. at least i know what it looks like from this update

I seem to be having a problem posting a comment - I sent you reply at KristenatFood.com with the at as @ and it came back wrong wrong
July 17, 2010 3:04am
zaarmail indicator on upper right will not clear even after I have opened all zaarmail. Please make it go to nil when no new mail is present (like now). Been having this problem the past 2 days (formerly would not show when new mail was in... sigh) TIA
July 17, 2010 4:15am
Found out about this through a google search and going to face book which linked me to here. Everything crossed all will go well quickly and going at full speed shortly and yes I miss the forums, feels like I've lost a ton of friends. Pat
July 17, 2010 7:28am
still cant see the sign in avatar. im going to hope it shows up later.
July 17, 2010 7:51am
Hi Bergy, that's not my email.
If you have questions or need help, send us a message through our Contact Us link listed above.
July 17, 2010 8:26am
O'kay am having minor problems with the recipe sifter do you want me to use the Contact Us link to report or just leave till fully running and see if they are still happening. BTW beside minor hiccup really like new recipe sifter. Overall just learning where all the buttons are but just hesitant till fully operational to get a true picture so to speak. Pat
July 17, 2010 9:11am
Kristine I have tried twice to email you but it is returned unknown What a time you all are having. I am using Firefox 3.6.6, On Cable and a Mac10.6.4
July 17, 2010 10:10am
I know everyone is working hard, and I got back a couple of nice response to some issues.
There are multiple problems and hopefully one fix will lead to another and so on. I have 28 problems so far which do not work.
It's funny, with the old Zaar I could access Zmail, that seems to be fine and all my cookbooks are there without a problem, I even got an extra one
, really, but it isn't mine. Haven't had to sign it, but a host of other items.
And there are many things from the old Zaar that are not there which I truly miss. Some of the new format is ok, some, I really "dislike." And I have 3 computers, so Firefox, Netscape, IE, tried them all and one doesn't seem to be better than the other.
July 17, 2010 10:35am
I am having a problem signing in also..this is to test to see if I am really signed in.
July 17, 2010 10:36am
Well, i guess I am signed in..even though my avatar doesn't show up
July 17, 2010 12:09pm

July 17, 2010 12:30pm
Hi all the forum folks! If you can look us up on Facebook - we are convening there until the forums get fixed. My facebook name is "Andi Kanode Pena" - we are having a hoot! And an chin-dig!
July 17, 2010 12:40pm
Boy ain't this all fun? I thought Valentines Day was bad, boy was I wrong!!!!
July 17, 2010 12:44pm
Interesting!!! I did not login nor am I logged in yet I am posting here!
July 17, 2010 3:38pm
Love the sifter ... searched for sour cream and someone on face book mentioned it. Got Spicy Nachos with a sour cream dip. Anything made with sour cream comes up. My Baby Back Ribs came up for a search under my recipes for Chili. I have 3 chilis and I got ribs ... it has 1 teaspoon of chili powder in the rub. I think the sifter needs some help. Sorry, I know you are all working hard, I'm just having a hard time accepting all these problems. The forms are just the tip.
July 17, 2010 3:39pm
When I print out a recipe, the type is soooo small and I have it on large type. Also, the print is not dark--faint. Hope this gets fixed. I am glad that I printed out ALL of the recipes in my cookbooks. Zaar print was nice and neat.
July 17, 2010 3:40pm
I should clarify, they were searching for sour cream cake, sorry ... about the typo and they ended up with tons of sour cream recipes ... anything made with sour cream. I tried it and got ... spicy nachos, etc .......... Sorry I didn't make that clear.
July 17, 2010 10:38pm
I am having a horrible time printing recipes, they print only on one side of page which caused them to go to 2 pages and more, and the nutritional facts are at the bottom instead beside which also causes 2 or 3 pages, what a waste of paper!!! Please fix asap, I am need to print recipes for a function , also the print is small, even the large comes out smaller than before. 2. when I hover over recipes, etc., the box that comes up is only half on the page. 3.I am diabetic and the first thing i look for on a reacipe, even before i read the recipe, the sugar content, it is no longer there Please put it back, it is very important to me and i am sure others. I know you are all working hard and am looking forward to all these fixes and getting back to normal. thanks for the update!!
July 17, 2010 11:49pm
I have tried to post a recipe three times now. No email response to let me know it's accepted, and no recipe there either!
July 18, 2010 9:56am
Have to agree with others on the print issue I too am printing in large format and all recipes are going to 2 pages (where before on medium they would have been 1 page) so now I cannot get 2 recipes to a sheet of paper - sending up expenses. Pat
July 18, 2010 10:07am
I think the recipe printing is really lacking in the improvement department. I like the old format wthere you got to choose if you wanted Times New Roman or Arial and most recipes could be printed on one page with the Nutrition Facts displayed on the right side of the paper. I find it a huge disappointment to have the Nutrition Facts at the bottom of the page because it requires 2 pieces of paper. What happened to "Reduce, Reuse & Recyle"? I found the old printing format to be perfect in it was neat, clean and easy to read. I would like to see it continued as I believe a lot of other members would as well. Stephanie
July 18, 2010 10:29am
I even got an advertisement posted on a printed recipe - I think that is going too far. I hope tht this is just a temporary glitch
July 18, 2010 10:37am
The new pop up boxes that accompany recipe lists might be really useful if the print were large enough to read. Seems a waste of time to enlarge the entire page just to read them.
July 18, 2010 10:58am
im glad i havent tried to print anything based on what everyone has been saying i will wait until everything is worknig properly before i attempt anything. i know that all my saved recipes are here and once this site functions correctly i will begin to use it again. good luck working out these issues.
July 18, 2010 12:01pm
Just a warning to all, you might want to double check your posted recipes...I have noticed mistakes in some of my published recipes. However, when I click on edit recipe, the ingredient list is correct. I have submitted an e-mail with the details.
July 18, 2010 12:17pm
I just checked my posted recipes and found inaccurate ingredient amounts as well and when I tried to edit the recipe it didn't matter. I'm leary of trying a new recipe now because of this
I sure hope that gets corrected soon - it's a VERY important part of this website. Stephanie
July 18, 2010 12:42pm
I'm -HATING- the advertisements, the only reason I bought a premium account on the old site. I guess, at least now I'll save myself some money. The fact that I didn't have to see marketing was what made this my recipe site of choice though. I'm also really hating the mouse-over noise too. It makes reading and navigation very frustrating when I have to be so careful where I rest my cursor. I'm really disappointed right now, but I'm willing to give it some time, see if anything changes for the better.
July 18, 2010 1:31pm
I wish I could figure out how to open my cookbook, when I try to it says 0 cookbooks even though it shows how many recipes i have stored. HELP SOS.
July 18, 2010 2:08pm
I'm the first one to advocate for change when change is needed. What was wrong with the ZAAR??? I'm very unhappy with the new format. I loved the old zaar! The new format looks just like so many other websites on the netvery Generic. The old site felt personal, homey and the kind of place that looked like you could find friends there. I'm prolly in the minority here but that's okay. I've had nothing but trouble with this new format and I don't have time to mess around looking for stuff and waiting for you to get the site straightened out-when I need access to a recipe I need it then. Not a couple days later. I also hate all the ADS! I'm going back over to allrecipes and foodtv.com and hope they leave well enough alone.
July 18, 2010 3:28pm
2 and 3 page recipe prints are unacceptable!! I would like to be loyal, but am finding it very difficult when I can get good stuff printed on other sites on one page. also have found notes on my recipes that i did not put there, someone else's notes of a different recipe.
July 18, 2010 3:36pm
I can access my cookbooks, but the first three listed are gobbly gook, the rest are mine but have to guess at which i bring up cus the box is half off the page as is the box that comes up with hoving over recipes, this is happening on my page if that helps, although I am begining to feel nothing is gonna help until you go back to not fixing something that wasn't broke!!
July 18, 2010 3:39pm
I said the hoving thing was on my page but find it is on all pages, the first two, recipes and cookbooks at the top of the page are only half on the page.
July 18, 2010 4:03pm
Not only are ingredients missing, but directions are askew in some of my recipes! Glad I have the ones I posted saved elsewhere. It is going to be a long time before I try any recipe posted by others ... get this mess fixed.
July 18, 2010 7:30pm
Yup, we get all of this for "FREE"
July 18, 2010 9:57pm
What happened to testing changes before they went live?
July 19, 2010 1:43am
Well, don't know if this will appear or not..........the last try didn't happen! Anyway, all I had to say............was despite all of our complaints we should feel so lucky to have access to these wonderful ads and all the info on all of Scripps' other enterprises. !!! Wow, I just had to say it, and I'm not sure I can wait through another fabulous update to this site. The good never gets better, it gets worse. Like many others, that's why I paid for the PM. (Guess it was not as profitable as the ads for unrelated products that we have to read around.) Donna
July 19, 2010 2:07am
It seems Recipezaar was hit by an atomic bomb and no longer exists... as for the contributors of "your" 400,000 recipes may as well no longer exist for all YOU care! You can't take the hint that you have a lot of unhappy members and we don't matter at all! So go ahead and tell us all about what you are doing for "us" !
July 19, 2010 7:47am
I am glad I found this blog; I have been wondering why the home page invites people to take a tour, I even got an email to that effect, and yet none of the forums are accessible. Surely those invitations were premature and a terrible PR bungle! I am also curious to see how the subscribing members are going to be compensated for having paid in order to be ad-free and now having to put up with them. Recipezaar was my favorite food site but perhaps I'll have to look elsewhere now. I will keep an eye on this blog. Thanks.
July 19, 2010 8:18am
Whew, I thought it was just me and all the locks had been changed. I am anxiously awaiting getting back to the forums and chit chatting with friends. In the mean time, thanks and HURRY UP! ;^P
July 19, 2010 9:23am
RecipeZaar, 11, of the internet, died Tuesday July 12, 2010 at home. She was a friend to many and an inspiration to all who knew her. Surviving are millions of fans and mourning family members. Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
July 19, 2010 9:47am
I so agree with " Sky Glitter " on this subject.Quoting Sky Glitter " I think the recipe printing is really lacking in the improvement department. Stephanie " This so called " Improved Site SUCKS !!!!!! big friggin' time.
July 19, 2010 9:51am
Having MANY of the same problems as others but I have to say that I also HATE the mouse-over thing!! Way too much "noise" and VERY distracting!! Please take it away!!
July 19, 2010 10:41am
If anyone wants to talk to me, I'm on Facebook as Rose Daly.
July 19, 2010 11:28am
I would like to put in my 2 cents. At first, I was very positive about the change coming to this site. Now, not so much. I'm having much difficulty. I miss the forums so much I'm in counseling. The printing of recipes has sent me to the eye doctor to get my eyes checked. I should be sending a bill shortly for my doctor visits. All, in all, I know patience is a virtue, and we do need to adjust. But, I do have to agree with what wasn't broken, don't try to fix it. Just my thoughts. Thanks.
July 19, 2010 11:32am
Also, is the "Zmail" working? I have sent two messages to some members with no responses. Now, that is going to add to my paranoia..................LOL
July 19, 2010 11:35am
Thank-you with the link you gave me to my cookbooks I can now access my recipes - Happy to have the temporary access.
July 19, 2010 11:41am
It would be nice if The Powers That Be could take a minute to update their progress on a daily basis so that we could know what is going on - the last update that was posted was on Friday, July 16.
July 19, 2010 12:15pm
Dee, do you really expect them to work on weekends?
July 19, 2010 12:18pm
Private notes are still not working correctly. Often I have to add them 4-5 times to get them to take, and then there's no guarantee they'll be there the next time I look at a recipe. I have to agree with the new "improved" printing...it is FAR worse than before! So small I can't read it even with my glasses on the "large" setting, minimum of two-page printing for EVERY recipe no matter how few options I include, and having the private notes at the bottom of the recipe is not at all helpful, either. Searching within cookbooks is gone. No matter what criteria I use for "search within this set" I get zero recipes, even for something as generic as "chicken". Luckily I only have six or seven pages of recipes to sort through, but being able to search within a cookbook was something I used constantly and it would be nice if it came back. I can get used to the reviews being at the bottom of the page, but could we possibly get the function back where our own review shows up first? Especially with private notes not working, I rely on my reviews of a lot of things to remember what I did differently, and when there are 200+ reviews on some of them it's a LOT of my time wasted. Then...any idea at all when the forums might be back up? It's been well over a week by my count, and it seems absolutely silly to be talking about problems with the new site via the blog. In the mean time, it is incredibly frustrating when so many links on the site for help lead to a page that says the forums are being worked on but are currently unavailable. Especially those for Customer Support...it makes it look as if you don't want to hear about it, which I know is not true. I wish I could be positive, but everything I've tried to use the site for since the changeover has not worked properly for me. Sorry!
July 19, 2010 12:37pm
No, not on a regular basis, however, if thats what it takes when the site/business is in crisis then yes. You do what needs doing to get it fixed asap! I can remember being called in to work on a weekend on more than one occasion to help fix some mess or other, a few times it meant working around the clock until it was done! Its amazing how quickly a mess/glitch can be sorted out and remedied when you have to give up your own personal time to do it! Does that sound unfair? Perhaps, but then maybe next time they will think twice about releasing a program that is far from ready for release. I still don't know why they didn't reactivate the Zaar site last week while they worked out the bugs - at least the members would then have a usable site until the "re-release" of the new site. The way its being done, they are just driving members away to other sites. Oh well, not my problem since I am not on their payroll. I just feel bad for the members being kept in the dark. (stepping down off my soap box now.) Please resume your regularly scheduled program.
July 19, 2010 1:06pm
Everyone — most of your questions are answered in the post above, please read every item. If you have other questions or items we need to address, please Contact Us directly. We're still working on all of the above issues listed up there (plus a few more smaller ones). We'll keep you posted on progress with the forums as soon as we know more.
July 19, 2010 1:07pm
(And yes, we did work through the weekend but didn't have any news to share beyond what we've posted above — sorry, gang!)
July 19, 2010 3:31pm
does this mean you are working on the sign in issue for those of us who cant see the sign in screen. and i know its not just me becasue plenty of us are discussing this on facebook
July 19, 2010 4:47pm
Looks like it's going to be quite awhile, sigh. I guess I'm going to have to bite the bullet and rejoin facebook.
July 19, 2010 4:48pm
Boy, it sure sounds like nothing is working! All that advance buildup and hype, then this week-long catastrophe. I have, however, had the time to find some other interesting sites I hadn't known about before. Maybe I'll see ya there.
July 19, 2010 5:07pm
We are working on the sign in issues, cardsgirl. We're hoping to have a fix for that out on Wednesday.
July 19, 2010 5:48pm
Okay, I want to know the REAL website where y'all are posting what you REALLY think about this debacle! I've been a member of forums since 2002 and have never witnessed such a train wreck of a change-over! I always believed that Beta-testing was voluntary, not forced on members. So, Zeldaz, where are you hanging out now? I trust your judgement.
July 19, 2010 6:18pm
The reason for paying for a premium membership is to avoid ads, which considerably slows down the opening of a page for me. (As it is, it's affecting how long it takes between when I type something in here, and how long it takes before I see it). I realize that ad revenue is what is needed to keep a site running, but is there some way to resolve this issue?
July 19, 2010 6:24pm
I have had many issues as well along with everyone else. But I didn't read any one mentioning that when you want to change the servings it does not convert them properly. I have seen this on a few recipes already that I have tried to convert. So Beware Zaar friends...ooops I mean Food.com friends!!!! lol
July 19, 2010 6:42pm
Thanks Kristine at Food.com for your updates of 1:06 & 1:07pm today. They really are appreciated.
July 19, 2010 6:47pm
All I can say is that I'm glad that I made all my required recipes that I had tagged in the FORUM games before the exciting change took place. I was just telling my DH this when he said..."Maybe they don't want to bring back the FORUM"...Now that would be sad.
July 19, 2010 7:28pm
If, indeed, the Forums are gone for good, then so will I. I rely heavily on the forums to help solve problems, learn new techinques and advance as a cook. There's too much competition for "just recipes" to hang around without the forums.
July 19, 2010 7:30pm
I have a gut feeling we are going to see a large reduction of the forums.
July 19, 2010 7:45pm
Hang on I am just as frustrated as anyone else but there has been NO talk about the forums going . We have been reassured time and time again that they will remain the same. If only the site designers would get their act together soon so we can get back to our usual routines. I sure miss the photo forum and will have a pile of photos to post when (she says fingers crossed) this mess gets straightened out
July 19, 2010 8:16pm
There won't be a large reduction of the forums, and we are bringing them back. There are just some page load issues with them. We have curtain up on them because if we opened them up, you'd only be more frustrated and struggling to post or reply. We're hoping to open them again for some test traffic tomorrow, tech god's willing, and if all goes well, it'll be smooth sailing. The Food.com team values the forums as much as you all — it's the heart and soul of this site and a great resource for members and just passers-by for great cooking ideas. No one wants to lose that.
July 19, 2010 8:19pm
If this "new" version of Zaar runs anything like the Valentines day disaster we are all screwed! WE keep hearig the fix is coming...how many times have we heard that before... Fixing something that was not broke is like througing money at a bad investment... it never pays!
July 19, 2010 8:23pm
Checking back....it is now Monday night, the day I hoped the forums would be back open based on the posted information.....just checked, and they are still not working. I've got the name of a good IT guy if food.com is interested. I also am interested in where you all are going.....is there another site that is like the now deceased recipezaar?
July 19, 2010 8:42pm
I am also very frustrated. I would love to find a site that is a twin of our Zaar... I really don't like the reviews being below the recipe, especially when it's mine! As stated above if I've made changes to a recipe and reviewed it, the next time I make it I want to reference my review! I'm no IT person, but this is ridiculous! There must be someone in a position of authority (with some sanity) that can see the mess this is! The forums are a big draw to this site, and I rely on members' input for many different things...COME ON ALREADY! I renewed in early January, I'm expecting half of my money back!
July 19, 2010 8:52pm
Dear Food.com, Why don't you hire the same webmasters that The Weather Channel did when they just redid their site? It's still listed as "BETA" but it's a whole lot "beta" than what has happened to Zaar. Ten monkeys and a flash drive could do a better job of changing over a website then what's been done so far. And I don't buy for a second all the fake Twitter updates from alleged "fans" of the "New & Improved Food.com". I can smell a PR campaign smeared THAT thick from a mile away.
July 20, 2010 1:03am
The twitter feed in the community section is great! A good mix of cheerleaders and haters.
July 20, 2010 2:04am
I really dislike the recipe page in general and it actually makes me dizzy looking at it. I can't look at the page too long and have to look away. The recipe name is far left and not centered, so busy everywhere and recipe itself is made out to be inconsequential when all other busy busy clutter clutter all over the place. .
July 20, 2010 5:20am
Can't print out recipes at all. Have tried to print one or two and each time the print has an advertisement splashed over it!! Cookbooks... can't open any at all, whether mine or someone else's I feel lost on this site and really think it would have been better to suspend the service for a full 24 hours in order to let the techies get the work done and to avoid all the chaos that so many people are now experiencing. I'm disappointed!
July 20, 2010 9:04am
I think what angers me the most is even though I can get to my cookbooks (which I'm sorry some of you can't) it doesn't do me much good. I can't find particular recipes. The sifter doesn't work & if you type a word in 'search this set' that you know is in the title, it still comes back with '0' recipes found. I can't use the recipes in my cookbooks unless I want to go through them one at a time. As a side note. Usually 'Beta' versions are released to only a small number of testers to find the bugs. The full version is then released to the public. If you notice on the logo in the upper left-hand corner, what we're getting (all of us, not just a select number) is the 'Beta' version. That explains the gross mess we're experiencing. Hopefully, they'll either return the old version or get this one fixed soon, before they lose half of their membership.

Hooray my avatar is back and I now can see that I am signed in and I can now access my home page. I see that I have 11 z-mails but when I try to send a thank-you for a review there is no way to reply and when I scroll down there is a not that says do not reply to this message as it is not monitored (I think the word was monitored) I'll go check
July 20, 2010 10:13am
This is what it says: (Please do not reply; this email address is not monitored.)

I am so disappointed with this new site. I have checked in everyday to see if it has been fixed,(it hasn't) and I can't get used to the new format. Sooo slow to log in or change pages. I need a magnifying glass to see the printed recipes. Ads I don't care to have splashed across the page. I hope someone out there finds a new site for all of us who won't be using this one. I have found lots of interesting blogs, and I am sure that someone, somewhere will start a site similar to Zaar. If someone knows of one, please post.
July 20, 2010 10:44am
@ Bergy — that zmail notification you're getting is coming from the Food.com general user acct, hence why you shouldn't reply directly to it to say a "thanks" — you'll want to see who the reviewer is and zmail them directly. I believe this is how it's always been (but you guys will correct me if I'm wrong!).
July 20, 2010 10:45am
@Scots Las - we address the printing issue in the post above.
July 20, 2010 11:22am
Please re-read the above — I updated some of the bug information b/c we've put some fixes in place and have started processing new submissions again. Tx, all!
July 20, 2010 11:23am
Kristine that would be fine if there was a direct link back to the member on the notification but how it stands now I have to go to the recipe and then link to the reviewer. In the case of the Swiss Chard review the latest reviewer doesn't even show on the recipe
July 20, 2010 11:28am
I have an email notification of a new review to one of my recipes, BUT when i click on the link it takes me here If you bookmarked the page, try our search to find what you're looking for. If you typed the address, be sure it was entered correctly. If you feel you reached this page in error, contact us. Maybe we can help... hahaha !!! that is insane laughter!!! i tried to click on "contact Us"
July 20, 2010 11:30am
Regarding new submissions and notifications — there might be a slight lag between when you receive the notice and when the item shows up on the site and that's why you're getting error pages. We're looking into this. If you can copy/forward examples to us at our Contact Us address, that would help a lot. Thanks!

COPY AND PASTE pages sent through "contact Us"

Pesto lover: I've moved over to Kittencal's fully functioning forums. Here's the link: http://kittencalskitchen.com/forum/index.php#1
July 20, 2010 12:31pm
The_Swedish_Chef: Thanks for the info! Is that where everyone is moving to?
July 20, 2010 12:41pm
The_Swedish_Chef: Thanks. I'll go there now.
July 20, 2010 1:04pm
That's where I'm going, permanently. Out of respect for the members who have helped build the 2010 Member's Cookbook, I'll continue to maintain that, but I'm done with the disrespect and b.s. we've all gotten from the current mis-management.
July 20, 2010 2:26pm
I'm right there with you Swedish Chef and thanks for the info.
July 20, 2010 2:29pm
You betcha, Deely! I'll be happy to see y'all. ~insert SMILEY fACE HERE~
July 20, 2010 3:56pm
I'm not going anywhere and plan on sticking right here in the hope that things will get better and even surpass the old site. But can you please also look at the recipe page because it's very hard on your eyes. It needs to be uncluttered and simplified. It's akin to someone with seizure problems looking at blinking lights.
July 20, 2010 4:08pm
Rinshinomori you sure nailed that, the recipe page makes ya want to leave.
July 20, 2010 5:07pm
I just checked one of my recipes, and the amount of one of the ingredients has been changed. I know it was correct before. Now I wonder how many other recipes here have been altered?
July 20, 2010 5:53pm
Well, with all the comments ... there are many more problems. Links don't work, recipes didn't come over as hey were originally posted. I have 4 that I know of changed, metric US conversions don't work, sign in (not for me, I have never had to sign in), forums of course, sifter is a MESS, recipe search is a MESS, printing also doesn't work well, half the bottom half of the home page doesn't show up. Links on the bottom don't work, reviews that were there on a recipe are no longer; relevance vs rating ... I hate the relevance order. Basically a total mess as far as I am concerned and this should of never happened. This change should of been completely tested first. As Swedish Chef mentioned ... Weather Channel worked fine. This is just a total disaster, sorry Food.com, but we know you are working hard, but honestly ... this shouldn't of happened. Listen to your valued loyal fans.

I'M SO DEPRESSED BY ALL OF THIS. I have checked on this site several times a day for the last week, and I am very disappointed in the new format. The "food.com/mycookbook" is helpful and works around the problem of accessing personal cookbooks. But the site is WAY TOO SLOW, clearly due to the ads. I know ad revenue is vital in a for-profit business, but it should not get in the way of customer usage. Every ad does not have to blink, change color, do "exciting" things! It slows progress for hunting for recipes. One of the best things about Zaar was you could quickly do an ingredient search based on what's in your fridge and make dinner. Not possible now - not with the slow pace. Even the back button is slow because of the ads! And, as for the RECIPE SIFTER: Has anyone figured out a way to "exclude" a specific ingredient of your own choosing, not one of the "main ingredients" determined by food.com? For example, on Zaar you could search on pasta and then type in to exclude recipes with "chili powder". KRISTINE, ETC. Is that feature now gone, or have I just not found it yet? I feel like something (zaar) that really improved my quality of life is gone. Since I found zaar, my cooking of tasty food that suits my family's tastes has greatly improved, and now I don't know what to do. Cooks.com, chowhound, allrecipes, and the rest aren't as good as zaar was for efficient filtering. HELP.
July 20, 2010 7:29pm
It's true that so many things are such a mess, and for more than a week? So much of this site is unusable. It's really too bad. Very disappointing, food.com.
July 20, 2010 10:40pm
LOL! I checked several of my recipes, both private and public and loads are all bollocked up: one recipe calls for 1.5 eggs in the ingredients and 3 eggs in the directions. Good luck, folks, trying to figure THAT out!
July 20, 2010 11:34pm
Come on guys, this is going to take a while. That's what computers are like. A week is not a very long time to get a computer problem straightened out. I hate to see people abandoning a good site because of temporary problems. We are so obsessed with instant gratification these days, we don't realize that some of these matters will take time to solve. I hope the refugees will reconsider.
July 20, 2010 11:50pm
I would CERTAINLY have preferred to have the Premium Membership advantages retained. This proves again, that when things are free, "you get what you pay for." I don't want the ads and I should not have to put up them. I didn't mind paying....it was a nominal amount. You have just created customer dissatisfaction among the LOYAL, OLD customers you already had! PLEASE consider creating the "Premium "status again, and getting rid of trash for those of us who want to Why not? Special deal with the advertisers? When AOL went "all free" folks could still retain special benefits if you wanted to pay. I still pay.
July 20, 2010 11:53pm
I was looking at one of my recipes and instead of "1 10g package" or what ever it was originally they now have "10 g packages". If I was thinking about making that I would wonder what that meant. Sure I will submit a correction but honestly if my own recipes are screwed up whose to say how many more are screwed up!
July 21, 2010 2:50am
I have NEVER submitted recipes with grammatical errors yet these are some of MY recipes as YOU have them posted: Sister Barbara Ann?s Beer Muffins ? Fried? Pork Chops and Gravy Marie?s German Fruit Cookies Mom?s Baked Tomato and Cheese Macaroni Note 1: If you can?t find Ready-Cuts, use a small penne pasta or mostaccioli. Elbows don?t have enough substance for this recipe. Mom?s Best Barbecued Ribs Babbling Brook?s Chicken and Dumplings YOU have altered MY recipes and I look bad - I want corrections made as needed (That is not HOW I TYPED THEM IN!) If you can't fix your mistakes please reinstate Recipezaar AS IT WAS and apologize to all the Zaar chefs you have offended! Shame on you!
July 21, 2010 2:54am
YOU can't even get comments to post as I typed them in! You are a poor imitation of a "professional" website!
July 21, 2010 6:27am
i am just happy to say i can now sign in and sacve recipes to my cookbook. thank you to people who got the issue fixed. for those of you still waiting patience is a verture and just keep the faith, it will get fixed
July 21, 2010 9:58am
I'm with Linda Cooks Dallas: I'll pay MORE than we did before, to help with the non-advertising revenue generation, just to get the basics of zaar back (call it something other than zaar if you must, but few ads to slow things down and a good recipe sifter). Frankly, the incessant ads make me determined NOT to buy that product, on principle. When you think out over a 12 month period, considering all the features of zaar, usefulness at holiday times, ...umm, I'd say it's had a $5/month positive effect on my daily life. I like eating good food made at home. It'd be a bargain. FOOD.COM FOLKS: I'd still like an answer to my question above about the recipe sifter. Have we lost the feature of typing in a specific ingredient for exclusion in our searches?
July 21, 2010 10:33am
Yikes!!! I only found this page a few minutes ago! Scripps will have to pay for my psychiatric treatment — serious withdrawal symptoms — after this change-over!
July 21, 2010 10:39am
After skimming through the comments: * I am signed in (and STAY signed in, hurray) on both my desktop and laptop. * I am very worried about what is happening to recipes ... I printed one, and the ingredients were messed up. I got to the original recipe (to check) once only, and it was NOT THE SAME as my print-out. After that, I could not find the recipe again.
July 21, 2010 1:25pm
Chocolatl, a week is a VERY long time for things to be this screwed up without any sign or indication of when they might be fixed. Granted, not for Scripps, being that some of the things they broke in the last major site change had never been fixed (what was that, over two years?), but in the real world simply slapping "beat" under the logo and expecting it to suffice while many, MANY things are broken is not good enough.
July 21, 2010 1:29pm
I am very sad with all of this change over, ...and I am a very patient person. I told hublet the same thing as mentioned by Swedish Chef and Sarasota, Weather.com changed over with out any bumbs, or at least none that I noticed. I miss the zaarites!
July 21, 2010 1:30pm
Interesting. Before I submitted my last post I saw that I had written "beta", yet now it is printed as "beat". (NEW PARAGRAPH) I had been using the site for recipes, but since now I know even the recipes are incorrect I will move on to another venue. I can't even trust my own recipes to have correct amounts, so the thought of trusting a new recipe to have the correct amounts is not something I'm willing to do. (NEW PARAGRAPH) Good luck, Food.com! Hopefully you'll work out you eventually, without you having lost too many of your formerly loyal customers!
July 21, 2010 1:31pm
Sorry, forgot, waving hi and sending hugs to everyone.
July 21, 2010 1:42pm
Hi! I have been away for 10 days and seems like I picked the right time to be MIA! I still cannot access ANY forums, is this right or am I locked out? I can access my zmail but only through an email notification ans my cookbooks seem to be okay too.....so, the site is still down is that right? I can also search for recipes, but I MISS my forums!
FT
July 21, 2010 1:44pm
EXCUSE my previous typos!
July 21, 2010 1:52pm
"BUG WITH SEARCHING/SIFTING COOKBOOKS: Right now, it appears that the "Search This Set" box on individual cookbooks isn't working properly. Also, at this time, the Recipe Sifter is not recognizing your recipes in your Main Cookbook but should work on other custom cookbooks. These issues are on to-do list to fix!" Sorry, but at least on my custom cookbooks the recipe sifter is not working. It comes up with everything crossed out...so another bug that needs to be put back on the to-do list. Good luck guys. Perhaps the site will be working by the time we're having our Christmas parties. Hope so.
July 21, 2010 5:20pm
Soooo glad I was "smelling the smoke" before I saw the fire and printed out 100% of my recipes! I sure am having fun at Kitten's forums!
July 21, 2010 5:59pm
Kristine, can you explain more about "there won't be a large reduction of forums"? I'm unclear on what this means. Thanks!
July 21, 2010 7:07pm
Hi Kizzikate ~ Maybe they will archive some of the LARGE forums ~ I've never understood why we needed to keep the many many pages of posts in the Community Cafe.
July 21, 2010 7:12pm
After reading that some have seen their recipes have changed I went and checked just one of mine and Oh My Gawd...it is not proper with the amounts in the ingredients. I typed it in right cause I have used it before. How do I go ahead and make someone else's recipe if I don't even know if it is accurate. I should of printed out all my recipes before this change over. Who would of thought Recipes would get messed up with this changeover. Do I submit recipe corrections for mine when I find them or do you think this will be fixed? Off to look at my other recipes...Yippee !!! First I might go see the fun forum at Kitten's.
July 22, 2010 10:31am
Sorry, we're not here at the moment! Ran to the neighbor's for some sugar, be back soon. That isn't true, I'm in here now, note the time posted.
July 22, 2010 11:48am
Kristen and the rest of the food.com behind the scene gang. I just want to say thanks for all you do. I'm waiting patiently (kindof) for all the kinks to be worked out so that we can see how amazing the new site is.
July 22, 2010 12:48pm
Okay, you have new recipes up, when are the reviews coming back? about the new members that have just joined, why are you listing them? From what changes I have seen, I am still not impressed.
