    Big news from Food.com headquarters! As of June 1, 2011, we are going paper-free with our recipes. No more printing, no more wasting paper!

    Why go to paperless recipes?
    As many of you know, we are living on borrowed time when it comes to preserving the earth's forests. If we keep going at our current rate of paper consumption, by 2050, there won't be any forests left. Anywhere. Think of all the woodland creatures who will be homeless. Horrible!

    Some companies are combating the issue by enacting their own "Save Our Trees" policy and trying to reduce paper consumption by 50%. Well, we decided that wasn't good enough. Food.com is going beyond where any company has gone before: 100% reduction of paper consumption. And we're inviting you on board.

    So what does this mean for you?
    Like we said, as of June 1, 2011, printing recipes will no longer be an option on Food.com. We will be removing the print button on all recipe pages, deactivating our custom print features, and disabling the option to print from your browsers, too.

    We feel it's time to take a stand. No more paper copies means more trees, more oxygen and more homes for those little animals we mentioned before — like endangered birds. Our favorite is the beloved Chirping Warbler. We don't want to be the ones that contribute to the silencing of that warbler's song; we want that bird to sing and sing loudly forever.

    Paperless recipes are better for you, too.
    We know this might be an adjustment for folks who print copies of every recipe they love, but just envision it: No more splattered or torn printouts. Instead, start saving your favorite recipes in your cookbooks here at Food.com, where we will keep them pristine and at your virtual fingertips forever.

    first of all, I appreciate the effort to save the environment. But, how are we supposed to look at recipes without paper? The splatter that would get on the paper is surely going to get on the iPad/laptop/notebook/whatever we would be reading it on. So if I want to use recipes from food.com I will just have to copy and paste it to Word document and then print it. I think the message is a good one, but disabling the print feature is just bizarre and anti-user friendly (kind of like changing the site to food.com with all the bugs).

    Thumbs down! Not everyone has access to computers and internet all the time ! There is one computer in our house, and 5 people to share it..thus its 5am and this is the only time I usually get... thelowdownunder said it well.

    I am not in favor of this decision. I believe this is just going to make Food.com less user friendly. Everytime I think that the site is still okay and I can keep using it, you make another decision to make it more and more unuseable and difficult to find the things that were great about food.com(formerly recipezaar). I believe that whether or not we print out a recipe is our decision to make not yours. How many of us have a computer in the kitchen to look at the recipe while we cook? I don't have one and this just makes it all that more difficult to make a recipe from Food.com.

    This is just silly. I use the print feature for copy and paste. It's more "neater" Recipe.com has just become just another recipe site. This place used to be neat and 1 of a kind. Not any longer. I am finding myself hitting allrecipes. But go ahead. Keep on treating your costumers like they are babies. This used to be a great site, instead of making it better, you make it worse. Great job. High five.

    If this isn't an April Fools joke you can still print recipes. Just copy and paste into Word and print. A tiny bit more effort, but you can still have a hard copy for all those times you really need one!

    I don't think this will work for me. It will mean I have to print it out or if not an option to put it into Word to print — i will have to hand write /copy the recipes. I need a recipe to look at when I am cooking and my computer is not in the kitchen. It would be a nightmare and would mean I would have to look for another site for recipes. Not workable for me.

    Lets hope this IS AN APRIL FOOLS JOKE!!! Otherwise this would be just one more "new" change that is slowly turning me away!     This is the most ridiculous thing that I've ever heard. I can make my own decisions on how to 'save' the environment, thank you. I don't need you to decide that for me. Have you considered that turning on a computer to boot it up every time I want to look at a recipe is not more 'eco-friendly' than having a hard copy to refer to? How about the times that I've gone to look for a recipe on your site, only to find that it's down? Maybe I'd be more impressed with this if I hadn't been unable to log in to my account for the past week, and you'd finally gotten around to fixing the broken link that has been happening for a year when you try and get shopping lists sent to your cell phone. I can't believe that you're taking away features on the site and trying to pretend that you're doing us a favor. So, so lame.

    OMG, I totally agree with Qmeg. First they tell us we're not supposed to print and file all of our emails at work, now this! What's the world coming to? Now I just place my wireless laptop on my dining room table (just a few steps from the kitchen) and I do just fine. I've also, already, set up my personal cookbooks, a work still in progress, and am very happy with them. If your objective is sincere, then Kudos to you.

As a society we need to find better ways to do things so as to make less of an ecological impact on our planet. I don't own a printer for this very reason. I'm even saving up for a book pad so I don't have to buy paper books anymore. Since I tend to memorize recipes this wouldn't affect much of anything in the kitchen. HAPPY APRIL FOOLS DAY FOLKS! And try not to be overly upset. Change is GOOD! especially if its large electronic bills.

    To those of you actually worried about the trees...do your homework! The paper ind. uses forsets it plants and replants. Because of the paper ind. we have more forests now than we ever have.     I"m not in favor of this at all. What happens when the computer crashes and you are forced to use the computer at the public library and need a recipe for dinner?? It means you have to waster your one hour of alloted library computer time WRITING out the recipe instead of a 10 second print job.

    For my daughters 16th birthday I printed out all the great recipes we loved to cook together over the years and made a cook book. I have been printing for her every year for the last three years to add to her cook book with all the great newest tried recipes. How am i going to continue this tradition? I love that I can print a recipe with nutritional facts for her to see.

    While I appreciate the ecco friendly, environment saving effort. This makes things very hard for people who 1. may not have a computer at home and use a public library. 2. Some people don't have or can afford a IPad and use this site for the budget friendly recipes.. I am one of those people. I am on a fixed income due to being disabled. Not that I want pity but have you really thought about how allot of people may be effected by this and some may not use this site anymore for these reasons....
