Grown-up hot apple cider. Perfect for a cold winter day. My recipe actually calls for mulling spice, however, RecipeZaar does not recognize it as an ingredient. Use 3-4 tablespoons mulling spice in place of allspice, cloves, cinnamon sticks and orange rind, if available. Use good quality fresh apple cider (not apple juice.) This would also make a nice cocktail if cooled and served over ice.

This vinegar based potato salad is very popular in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. It is frequently served with Wiener Schnitzel.

From the Inn at Little Washington. Note: the 2 t. unflavored gelatin creates a nice firm custard. If you prefer a looser custard, use the lesser amount of gelatin.

A healthier version of Libby's famous pumpkin pie recipe. I make this for my diet conscious friends and family members as a special treat during the holidays and they enjoy it immensely. Feel free to adjust the amount of Splenda to achieve your preferred sweetness.

We always make this for Thanksgiving and Christmas...it is a must have holiday menu item. You can substitute a container of Cool Whip for the freshly whipped cream. You could try other Jell-o flavors, but we are traditionalists and stick with lime. Some family members enjoy the addition of chopped pecans but I prefer without.

I saw this recipe on HGTV about 10 years ago. It is very moist and delicious. The three layers make for an impressive bakery style cake.

This is one of my favorite pancake recipes. The butter rum sauce provides a grown-up, Carribean flavor to this childhood favorite. You can leave out the rum or use rum extract, however, the dark rum provides a nice flavor.

Chocolate chips may be substituted for the coarsely chopped chocolate. You can also use crunchy peanut butter but may want to reduce or eliminate the chopped peanuts. Cookies should be small.

These biscuits are more dense than traditional southern biscuits. Serve with your favorite preserves and a hot cup of tea or coffee.
