    Yeast Waffles
    Handle

These make a tasty change from regular old waffles leavened with baking powder and/or soda. They are especially good if you happen to have some sourdough starter in the fridge, though the original recipe did not call for it. Time does not include rising time.

    Recipe #103351

    Select
    Rye Batter Bread
    Handle

I can't remember where I got this recipe, but it makes a pretty good tasting bread. Cooking time includes rising time.

    Recipe #103256

    Select
    Roquefort Dressing
    Handle

This is my version of the wonderful Roquefort dressing that was served at the Magic Lamp Inn in Cucamonga CA when I worked there as a prep-cook 40-45 years ago. As memory serves, it tastes pretty much like the original and is great on salads and as a dip for French fries, chips, chicken wings, or just about anything else you might want to dip in a blue cheese dressing. You have to start this a day ahead to drain the yogurt.

    Recipe #102975

    Select
    Fried Breaded Veggies
    Handle

I am intentionally keeping this recipe generic. I have used this recipe for fried okra, green tomatoes, mushrooms, zucchini, and eggplant, and it works well on all of them, whether deep fried or pan fried. The coating adheres fairly well, and even stays on remarkably well through refrigeration and reheating in the oven. Don't let the length of the directions scare you. A lot is just commentary and "either/or" type instructions.

    Recipe #102877

    Select
    Cream Cheese Brownies
    Handle

The original version of this recipe appeared in the May 1979 issue of Bon Appetit.

    Recipe #102743

    Select
Chocolate Chip Cookies (for Health Nuts ???)
    Handle

This recipe for these tasty cookies was given to me about 25 years ago by Robert Atkinson, one of my operators in Kenai AK, after he brought them to a company barbecue.

    Recipe #102562

    Select
    Chocolate Zucchini Bread
    Handle

My wife found the original version of this recipe in the 2003 Penzeys fall catalog. We have adjusted it to our liking.

    Recipe #102469

    Select
    Dilly Casserole Bread
    Handle

This tasty recipe was given to me by my former manager at Marathon Oil in Houston TX.

    Recipe #102355

    Select
    Double Chocolate Cookies
    Handle

My favorite ex-neighbor, Nell, gave me this recipe. Normally I'm not a big chocolate on chocolate fan, but these delicious cookies are the exception to the rule.

    Recipe #102195

    Select
Spiced Pecan Cake With Pecan Icing
    Handle

This cake is a lot of work !!! But it is well worth it for that special occasion! Although I found this in the March, 1984 issue of Bon Appetit, when it first came out, but it REALLY comes from Paul Prudhomme's first cookbook, the one that started the whole international Cajun cooking craze. Regardless of quoted times, this takes all day to make, on and off.

    Recipe #94079

    Select
    Refried Beans
    Handle

This recipe is definitely NOT heart healthy, but it tastes sooooo good! We only fix this when we want some "special" refritos. Usually we just doctor up a can of low-fat refried beans with enough bacon fat and spices to make them edible. Prep time does not include soaking time.

    Recipe #94008

    Select
    Low Calorie Cheesecake
    Handle

I found this on a cream cheese package, I think ??? It's easy and very tasty. I love a good cheesecake, but I am rarely in the mood to go to all of the trouble to make a quote "real" unquote one. Prep time does not include chilling time

    Recipe #93889

    Select
    Toby's Orzo
    Handle

I was looking for a rice substitute one afternoon and came up with this pasta dish. This is a very nice 'company' dish, looks pretty impressive for a real easy dish.

    Recipe #93818

    Select
    Apple Walnut Cake
    Handle

My wife found this in her Country Magazine, and for a change, I hardly modified this one at all. It's pretty much as we found it and tastes great.

    Recipe #93717

    Select
    Yellow Squash Casserole
    Handle

This very good recipe was given to me by Nell Haberstick, a former neighbor, who is now 93 and has moved to a retirement home. We miss her... and her recipes.

    Recipe #93284

    Select
    Glenda's Flourless Peanut Butter Cookies
    Handle

I had SEVERE reservations when my wife first ininflicted these on me, but they are WONDERFUL! And easy to make!

    Recipe #93026

    Select
    Sal's Twice Baked Sweet Potatoes
    Handle

I got this from a neighbor, Sal Lacayo, a retired chef who still remembers how to cook. This one is not overly sweet, which is my number one complaint about most sweet potato casseroles. We really enjoyed this at our neighborhood ally parties.

    Recipe #92912

    Select
    Grapefruit Cake
    Handle

This is a recipe from my wife's childhood, though her mother doesn't remember ever making it, and her brothers and sister never remember eating it. She must have been adopted, and SHE doesn't remember going through that! Tastes good, though!

    Recipe #92911

    Select
    Broccoli Casserole
    Handle

This is really just Chicken-less Divan, which has already been submitted, but it makes a nice veggie side-dish.

    Recipe #92909

    Select
Pasta With Pesto Sauce and ???
    Handle

This is a great way to use up leftover beef or chicken, or can be made into a rather 'fancy' scratch dish. Try using a combination of meats, or leave out the meat completely for a very tasty side-dish. Marination time not included in prep time.
