I like to make this on a cold day to go with stew, you can keep them warm in the oven and they don't spoil, It is from Delia's book and we love them. You can use what ever stock you like beef, chicken, or veg.
This is a quick fix if you need a pudding in a hurry, it look's a bit pale but once the custard is on you won't notice and it is so light and tasty. My DH will not eat pudding so when I have company at short notice I can serve this, it always goes down a treat. You can use veg suet I do.
This soup was something that I have made countless times, when my kids were small and we had no money feeding three kids and a hungry DH was hard, but this soup was a favourite everyone loved it and my kids still ask me to make it for them, It is so cheap to make a good store cupbord standby and it won't take you all day to make no fancy additions just plain and simple. You can make it with vegie stock. Also you can add a carrot or two.
I had lots of courgettes and lots of sorrel in my garden and this is the result. The sorrel adds a nice sharp taste. Very nice as a starter or a supper dish and you might like to try it with a side salad and dressing made with natural yoghurt with snipped chives and black pepper.
This soup has been handed down the family, and my Gran used to make it for our lunch and that's going back a bit, my sisters think mine is as good as Gran's, but I dont think anyone could make it like Gran as she made it on an old fireplace range and you could taste the smoke from the fire. It's a very warming delicious soup that will make you want more. Good for a cold day to warm you up but we have it all year round. It can get cold at night in summer here in Scotland and we have this for supper strange you might think but wait till you try it you will see.
Small oat biscuits that are traditionally eaten in Scotland with cheese or pate' as a snack, we sometimes have them for a light lunch with a side salad.Last time I made them we had #211001 French Tarts French onion marmalade, with them and it was a perfect addition.
