An unusual, creamy shrimp appetizer, with a little crunch, that isn't like any gelatine you've ever eaten! One pound of shimp serves 20-30 people, so this is an inexpensive way to treat your party guests to shrimp! It's always a favorite. If you make several molds and have one left after a party, it will keep for up to 3 days.
One of my favorite make-ahead, deliciously different appetizers for a party! Everyone love it and asks for the recipe. DH doesn't like broccoli and he loves this pizza, as all vegetable flavors blend after overnight refrigeration. I'd guess it serves about 24+ people with little 1-inch square bites. Leftovers, if there are any, can be refrigerated for about 2 days.
I've been making this comfort food forever, and it's DH's favorite. I especially like the creamy gravy over rice or mashed potatoes. If you want a stroganoff-like gravy, stir in 8 ounces of sour cream at the last minute, and serve over wide noodles!
This was a huge success at Thanksgiving Dinner...not one bite left! Apples give these sweet potatoes a new twist! A nice company dish that can be prepared a day ahead, refrigerated, and baked just before serving. Cooking time does not include pre-baking sweet potatoes.
A trip to the Olive Garden inspired me to create this recipe. This is a quick, easy and versatile Marinara Sauce with a delicious fresh taste. Serve over cooked spaghetti, ravioli or other pasta; sprinkle with freshly grated Parmigiano Reggiano cheese. Or chill and serve as a salsa with garlic bread sticks or tostitos.
Even though my family doesn't really like ssquash, they LOVE this casserole and often request it instead of potatoes! It's secret ingredient, nutmeg, adds a really different flavor combination that is a real people pleaser! It freezes well, so I always keep one on hand for potluck suppers or picnics. The original recipe, which I have modified to be lower-fat, came from "Entertaining at the College of Charleston", by Zoe D. Sanders
A real treat that's quick and easy! Definitely a comfort food often requested by my family in place of potatoes, grits, rice or pasta! Especially good for brunch or with any seafood meal. For appetizers, make into tiny cakes and serve topped with sour cream and spring onions.
This delicious cake (and starter) should be shared with friends, who in turn share with their friends ... and on and on. Thus, often called a "Friendship Cake", it fills the house with an irresistible aroma and makes a lovely present for any Holiday. Although it takes about 3 weeks for the Starter to be ready to use, feeding Herman is very quick and easy. This recipe was given to me by a friend over 30 years ago, and I still enjoy sharing this Herman Cake & Starter (including recipe). Prep. time does not include making the Starter the very first time.
For light, fluffy, faintly sweet dinner rolls, this is the best recipe..and versatile. It can be used to make cinnamon rolls, yeast coffee cakes, loaf bread, and many other uses I will be posting. These rolls freeze well, baked or unbaked. Reheating frozen baked rolls on Defrost microwave setting makes them taste just like they came hot from the oven!
Have a hearty soup on the table in under 20 minutes. Delicious and very easy to prepare...even easier if using pre-cooked shrimp. For variety, add one can crabmeat when you add the shrimp. Optional asparagus adds a little color and great taste!
A real comfort food, especially for cold winter days. White bean soup is my family's favorite, and I often use any of the following beans: butterbeans, baby or large lima, navy, or Great Northern. Prep time does not include soaking time.
My family's favorite blue cheese dressing--absolutely fabulous! It is even delicious made with fat-free sour cream, low-fat mayonnaise, and fat-free buttermilk. Great as a dip for vegetables or celery sticks served with buffalo chicken wings. This recipe came from a dear friend who graciously shared it many, many years ago.
This very simple, yet tasty, dressing was served (over a tossed salad) at a church monthly supper for many years. By using Equal susgar substitute, it is suitable for diabetic meal plans, and still very yummy.
