Originally from Shape magazine and adapted to suit my tastes and simplify the preparation. This is healthy and comforting with a pleasing, but approachable combination of spices that even picky eaters will enjoy. Though full of flavor this is not spicy hot, so feel free to adjust to your own tastes. A word of caution, this makes 6 perfect portions for my weight watching lifestyle but if you have hungry eaters at your table, it may only serve 4 or 5.

    Recipe #274099

Another potential candidate for my 2008 holiday trays courtesy of Sunset magazine. Love cookies using lemon and/or dried fruit and swirls are such a pretty addition to a cookie assortment. The suggested storage time on this cookie is short, so my plan is to make and freeze the dough well ahead and bake just a day before assembling trays.

    Recipe #273872

A recipe inspired by "Vegetarian Times," a good read whether you are vegetarian, vegan or omnivorous. I love comforting stews in the winter and this one grabbed me instantly. The golden, orange and reddish hues will remind you of a perfect Southwestern sunset. of This gets even better the next day, so cook ahead if you like.

    Recipe #273409

Still delivering the last of my cookie trays for 2007 and already contemplating the goodies that will adorn them in 2008. This one came to me in an e-mail from BHG and the ingredient list had me salivating. Placing this here for safekeeping.

    Recipe #273202

The last of the 2007 holiday trays are done and I am already thinking about next year. (Our trays have favorites but always include a few new recipes.) Planned to make these but never had a chance. Posting this so I don't lose it in the next 49 weeks before holiday begins again. This recipe comes from "1000 Chocolate Recipes from Around the World" an encyclopedic volume which should be mandatory reading for us chocoholics.

    Recipe #273099

At the end of each holiday season I have a canister of cookie ingredients leftover. From that comes a collection of candies used to accent my trays. This year's bark was sensational and well worth posting. The combination of ginger and dark chocolate bursts in your mouth with every delectable bite. While the flavors here are complex and more sophisticated than my usual bark, but just wonderful year round.

    Recipe #272876

Inspired by a recipe in Eating Well magazine, this quick dish is rather sumptuous in flavor. The original recipe suggested serving this with roasted fennel but I thought it worked better with roasted asparagus. Betting this would also work well with thinly sliced or pounded chicken breasts.

    Recipe #270749

While the day following Thanksgiving is a major shopping day for many, in my family it represents the start of our annual cookie baking. I was looking for a cookie, preferably a biscotti to use some extra almond flour and could not find one. A little tinkering with one of my favorite basic biscotti recipes and a new holiday cookie was born. These are large biscotti, perfectly sized for dunking.

    Recipe #267459

A well balanced blend of herbs and citrus make for a wonderful variation on the turkey burger. For those like me who love bold flavors, there may be a temptation to increase the herbs. Don't, as it does not improve the burger, rather it takes the seasonings out of balance. Instead you might try replacing the black pepper with some crushed red pepper. My suggested condiments are fresh tomatoes, grilled red onion slices and some Dijon mustard. Based on a recipe from Cooking Light 2000. WW 4pts per burger.

    Recipe #266608

My brother and I have a game each holiday where he tries to figure out which dishes prepared for our Thanksgiving table are lowfat and which are "real food." Let's see if he gets this one right. LOL. Using apple butter in this combination brings what looks like a flavorful side to the table in three simple ingredients and the dish can be prepared the day before and easily reheated. Directions are long, but it is really easy.

    Recipe #265685

The holidays are approaching quickly and so the search for gifts in jar commences. This looked divine and I was rather surprised not to find it here. Though I have not tried it yet, I have reduced the amount of butter based on Karen's experience. Thanks Karen!

    Recipe #265550

Looking for a new way to celebrate the holiday? For reasons both practical and sentimental, our family loves to make spritz cookies. These are quite different from butter or cream cheese cookies and will round out the trays nicely

    Recipe #264937

Cooking light inspired main course that comes together quickly with just a few ingredients from the pantry.

    Recipe #263446

This is my improvisation of a recipe found in "The Slow Cooker Bible." Though I am not especially fond of the canned soups, this appealed to me and I tested it using an adaptation of Recipe #18157. The result was a bit soupy but the taste was very good. For convenience, you may find it easier to use store bought canned soup. The dish itself is warm and comforting with a nice blend of flavors. Perfect as the weather gets cooler. Serve over rice or noodles.

    Recipe #263171

Recently scored a few pork tenderloins, hard to come by in my neighborhood, and found this recipe in Cooking Light. I have modified the cooking instructions to my preferred technique for perfect pork tenderloin. The results are delicious and pair exceptionally well with mashed or whipped potatoes. Pure comfort food.

    Recipe #263085

Another way to use up that milk once it turns. The result is a pillowy soft cake-like cookie with a delicate molasses and spice flavor. If milk never turns at your house, the you can make your own by placing a tablespoon of vinegar in a measuring cup and filling to level with milk. Let that sit for 10 minutes and you have soured milk.

    Recipe #259151

With four types of chocolate, nuts and Kahlua liquor, these are and indulgence. The recipe was inspired by Chef V's Recipe #199030 and came about while trying to create a variation on that wonderful treat. Once done, I realized that it was a dish on it's own and one well worth saving.

    Recipe #258938

I have not tried this one yet but the recipe comes from a reliable source with positive feedback from other home chefs. Posting it here because I will never find it again otherwise.

    Recipe #258417

Another half container of milk gone bad? Here's a delicious option for the thrifty minded. The cake is warm comforting and nicely spiced. If you don't have sour milk, you can make some by placing a tablespoon of vinegar in a one cup measure and filling the rest with milk; let stand 10 minutes and you are ready to go.
