I think I've tried every dumpling recipe on RecipeZaar in an effort to duplicate my friend's soup. Yesterday, I "caught" her making them for her boys. Maybe the one-on-one lesson did the trick. Here is her "recipe"
quick and yummy cake
I once made mistake and doubled the buttermilk (1 cup). I baked the cake in a springform pan and let it cool completely in the pan. My son prefers the mistake to the original recipe.
I LOVE the flavor of whipped chocolate yogurt. This variation is easy to throw together for lunches. My son likes to stir-in a spoon of cherry pie filling. fyi- The texture is not similar to the whipped commercial product. I like to use Nancy's low-fat Yogurt. Really any natural, plain yogurt would work.

The 10 minutes of cooking time is refrigeration time.
The chocolate chips and syrup are my additions to this recipe.
This is one of my favorite Alaska food memories. My mom would make this if we begged and begged and begged until she relented. The recipe is from the Pioneers of Alaska Cookbook; Mabel Holbrook submitted the recipe.
