    for the bread machine—this is a variation of a recipe I got from my German cousins who I spent many summers with in Germany while I was growing up. I haven’t actually made this recipe myself, but took copious notes while my cousins made them—we, like so many Germans, lived off of these. For an authentic touch, serve them with some brown mustard.

    We love this spread on garlic bread. It's a tradition that we have this on New Year's Eve in our house, but I've quickly whipped it up in the food processor for company in the summer when we have cookouts or picnics. This is also absolutely delicious spread on a shaved beef sandwich! Also, I usually substitute low-fat or fat free cream cheese, but you may use the fully leaded cream cheese.

    These are great on a cold night for dinner. While this recipe is for being doen on the stove top, I've often done it in the crockpot. I just don't saute everything, but throw it all into the crock, including the already fried bacon. Aso, when I use the crockpot, I'll often substitute out the can of beans for a multi-bean pack that I'll soak overnight (start them out in hot water) before I cook them in the crockpot. This was adapted from a recipe by Ingrid Hoffman on Food Network's Simply Delicioso.

    This is a delicious recipe we have had for dinner several times. It's great for the warm summer evenings and it's an easy, but impressive salad for entertaining year round. It's very similar to the mushroom and spinach salad at one of our favorite restaurants, The Melting Pot. This recipe will make 4-6 side salads or a couple of generous entre salads. Adjust the seasonings to your taste, but this is the combination we've found to be the best for our family. The key is to use really excellent olive oil and vinegar. But, if you want, you can just use half a cup of your favorite oil and vinegar dressing instead. Enjoy!

    This is a dish we traditionally have on Christmas Eve. We pop it in the oven, timed to come on at a certain time, go to Christmas Eve service, then come home right when it's finished. It's delicious with garlic bread and a light side salad. Mom made this a lot when I was growing up, but I've adjusted her recipe with lighter ingredients and get asked for the recipe just as often as she did.

    This is a fudge recipe my mom made every Christmas. The fudge always disappeared long before Christmas came. She gave it to all of our neighbors. A close friend of the family told us that it wouldn't be Christmas without my mom's fudge. Little do they know how easy it is! My DH always looks forward to Christmas, because now I make this fudge!

    My father-in-law is a retired Moravian minister. Each year, my mother-in-law would bake up a bunch of batches of Moravian Sugar Cakes and sell them at the church bake sale and even at their garage sale. People would come from miles away just to buy one of her sugar cakes. They are absolutely delicious! This recipe makes a bunch of cakes--perfect for Christmas gifts and enough to leave a couple over for your own Christmas or Easter brunch. These also freeze very well.

    This is a sauerbraten recipe my mom cooked for special guests and events. It seemed like she was in the kitchen forever getting it ready; so, I've updated it to save on time. This dish is really very easy. I haven't changed any of her original ingredients, just the way it's cooked. Now, we have this rich dish for friends and family and they always rave about how delicious it is. This dish is great served with egg noodles.
