A tart drink and very colorful. Add some to regular tea instead of lemon juice. You can make this overnight by placing a handful of blossoms into a pitcher of spring water. They expand a lot, so be sure to squeeze then out if you remove them.

    Recipe #80029

Mom used to make a less spicy (no cayenne) version of these for all my teen parties, but she called them cockroach crunchies as they do resemble the critters (great Halloween snack). They are lighter than air and you can season with absolutely anything you like. I stole the title from Melinda Lee ( but the ingredients and method are what I have used and grew up with.

    Recipe #79347

This sandwich is modeled after a cafeteria sandwich I had years ago, made with whole wheat bread, cream cheese, avocados, cayenne, and alfalfa sprouts. I've added the crusty bread, olives and onion. I like that it is layered so you get lots of different flavors and textures from top to bottom, and it holds together best if you use thick-sliced, hefty bread and let it rest and chill a while. The variations are endless -- add garlic or chives or herbs to the cream cheese; mirror-image the ingredients for a fatter sandwich; add bacon or cheese; for a spicier bite substitute radish sprouts for some of the alfalfa sprouts, etc.

If you love bacon and potatoes and cheese, this is an easy recipe that tastes good cold, too. I don't know if I read how to do this or made it up from leftovers, but I've taken it in a plastic bag to work, left it on the dashboard, and it is a hot meal! The prep time is for baking the potato, which may vary.

    Recipe #68953

This is so good with fresh tomatoes (not recommended with canned) and smoked salmon or other cured salmon (don't use raw). If you don't like salmon, you can omit it. The mix of tomatoes and green onions does it for me, even without the salmon. I like lots of salt and pepper. A local Hawaiian place serves this, although their kahlua pig (pulled pork) is their most popular dish.

    Recipe #67879

Very refreshing, and an Afghan favorite in their hot climate.

    Recipe #67154

This drink is popular in Afghanistan where it is so very hot much of the year, and it's a very cooling and healthy drink, providing you like cucumbers and mint. Leave one or the other out if you prefer. If you plan to transport it a ways, I prefer to use whole ice cubes so they don't melt as fast. Another option is to drain the yogurt overnight for a thicker drink.
