This recipe is modelled after the authentic Dutch meatball soup my Oma used to make. She would start by making her own broth using a soup bone. It continues to be a tradition in our family to serve this soup at every holiday and family get together.
This was adapted from a recipe in Better Homes and Gardens. We call this the "Family Salad" in our house. We each have a favourite ingredient that we put in. So easy to make and lasts for a few days in the fridge. Try different types of cheeses in place of the cheddar. Havarti with jalapeno works very well. Be sure to use the prepared oil & vinegar dressing.
This is an excellent fresh tasting bruchetta. I serve it on top of garlic bread, on a pita with garlic butter, or even in a grilled cheese sandwich with cheddar cheese! Mozzerella, cheddar and feta cheeses all work well with this recipe. I adjust seasonings and garlic to taste after a few hours of marinating.
Add a little spice to your teriyaki! I use this with chunks of beef to make kabobs (with red onion, green and red peppers and button mushrooms). The crushed chili and cayenne make this just a little different than other teriyaki marinades. Adjust to your spice level.
