Steamed Green Beans, Celery, Red Pepper & Onions
    Handle
    1 Reviews |  By Bergy

Very simple recipie that is attractive and tasty. I say to steam the beans & celery for 10 minutes and add the peppers/onions for last 5 minutes - This leaves the vegetables still quite crisp. If you like your veggies well done double the time.

    Curried Pork Burger
    Handle

This recipe is from Canadian Living magazine - . I am so happy that I stumbled across this recipe - We loved it. Tasty & Moist. It may be difficult to BBQ because it has a loose texture. I used Thai red curry paste. Be sure that the center of the burger reaches a temperature of 160F The prep time does not include the chill time. Serve with a green salad and perhaps Baked Beans or your favorite Oven Fries. Try topping it with Mango Chutney I usually like to fry some mushrooms along side the burgers.

Baked Oysters With Salsa, Feta & Parmesan
    Handle

This recipe is from "Sea Choice" oysters. It is an 8 oz container holding 6 large oysters. Number may vary according to size. The original recipe said 1 tsp olive oil in each muffin tin - I just sprayed lightly with Canola oil. I say 2 servings but if you have someone with a large appetite you may have to double the recipe. You may serve this as a first course then it would serve 3-6

    Ketjap Manis Spinach Plus
    Handle

Ketjap Manis is a sweet soy sauce - there are several recipes for it here on Zaar or you may purchase it ready made. It adds another dimension to the spinach. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did

I searched Zaar and could not find a recipe with this combination of ingredients. It isn't a pretty recipe but it sure tastes good. Use any cut of pork. The recipe doubles easily. I like to serve it with either a green salad or some other vegetable like carrots. Serve with extra honey mustard

    1 Reviews |  By Bergy

This recipe was originally from Bon Appetit using Piquillo Peppers but they are not readily available in my area so I have made the recipe "Home" friendly. If you wish to cut back on fat sub an "no oil" spray on the bread instead of olive oil. "No Oil" is similar to Pam. If you like "HOT" sprinkle the sardines with a few drops of hot sauce before adding the Jalapenos or if you like mild use sweet red peppers. Save some lemon wedges for garnish.

This recipe is from "Alive" Magazine. I used greengrapes instead of red - Red will be nicer but I had green on hand. The "Alive" recipe calls for 1/4 cup Hemp Hearts I didn't have any so omitted them. This is adifferent very enjoyable salad - The Grapes are a must that help blend all the flavors together

Quick, Easy & Tasty Curried Crab
    Handle

This is so easy - I used Thai Kitchen red curyy paste and flaked articicial crab. Use your own favorites. If you want more sauce just add more chicken stock and curry paste. This recipe is only medium hot but for some this will be HOT. Adjust your curry to your liking - start off with 2 tsp and keep adding.. Serve over rice or noodles. If you make more sauce thicken witn 1 tbsp of corn starch.

    Tasty Tex Mex Tortilla
    Handle

This recipe is from "Alive" magazine and it is very tasty and satisfying. It is a meal in itself and peppy flavor. I cut back on the rice and cheese and used HOT salsa. The corn I used were canned but you can use frozen. The carrots were fresh shoe string cut.

This is an easy Crock Pot recipe. It isn't pretty but it sure has great flavor. If you like less spice use mild Chili and cut back on the chili flakes.

This recipe is very easy to put together and makes a lovely presentation. You can get it ready early on and pop it in the oven 40 minutes before dinner. Great for Sunday dinner or for a special guest dinner. I like adding the Grand Marnier but it is optional. It just gives an added flavor boost. If you do not like spicy use regular smoked Paprika and sub green peppers for the Jalapeno.

    Shanghai Dumplings
    Handle
    3 Reviews |  By Bergy

This recipe has never seen Shanghai but the wrappers have! This is a steamed dumpling with healthy, spicy ingredients. It is quite spicy so if you don't like anything too hot cut back on the Jalapeno & Chilie flakes. I like to serve these dumplings with Asian sweet chili sauce or with a simple soy dipping sauce. One very easy dipping sauce is 2 tbsp Soy sauce, 1 tbsp rice vinegar and 1 tsp grated fresh ginger. You do not cook this sauce just let it sit for an hour or so before serving. The wrappers are available in many super markets and for sure available in Asian markets They come in a 1 pound package in two separate sections and You only need 1 section for this recipe. Freeze the other half. Your dumplings can also be frozen and steamed directly from the feezer -they just take a couple of minutes longer. For quick preparation use your mini chopper. The wrappers are apprx a 4" circle The main difference between Shanghai Dumpling wrappers and Wonton wrapper is the flour. Dumpling wrappers are made from Rice flour Wonton wrappers ordinary flour. The dumpling wrapper becomes almost transparent when steamed. For additional zesty flavor add 1 tbsp fresh grated ginger to the filling

    1 Reviews |  By Bergy

This is a very healthy grain salad. I have tried to duplicate the one I buy at the Overwaite deli. It is close but not completely there. Still this is very tasty. You do not want large servings ( apprx 1/2 cup serving) - it is very filling and intended to be served as a side dish. I like to have tomatoes and lettuce along with it or any other green salad.

    Leftover Corned Beef Scramble
    Handle

Makes a very nice brunch dish. Not only did I use left over Corned Beef but I also had a potatoe left over and there were bits of sweet peppers in the fridge too. So this was a very sucessful clean the fridge recipe. It really serves two or one very hungry person. Use your own favorite recipe for the scrambled eggs. Tabasco Sauce or any hot spicy sauce is good - I used Mama Zulu's -a very hot sauce

Leftover Chicken/Turkey Enchiladas With Black Beans
    Handle

I love enchiladas and what better way to use up some of the Holiday chicken or turkey. Make the enchiladas as hot or as mild as you like. I like to prepare the enchilads early in the day put them in the fridge, take out 1/2 hour before baking. I like my veggies crunchy so I do not prefry the ingredients but if you wish fry the veggie in a bit of oil until softened. You may use lite chesse and low fat sour cream. Sub with 2% cottage cheese for the sour cream if you wish. Nice to have a green salad along side

    Lighter Roasted Garlic Chicken Soup
    Handle

This recipe is a lighter version of recipe#10895. It is still very tasty (Well we thought so) I used One Swedish whole wheat small rusk per serving but it would not show in the ingredients - They are apprx. 2 1/2 " by 1" across so I say Rusk in the recipe but they are much larger. I used Knorr Beef Aroma spice but this is another unknown spice so I listed ancho chilli spice- Any of your favorite nippy spice will do. I use a "No Oil" cooking spray but listed it as Pam. I always have roasted garlic ready in my freezer so this soup only takes me minutes to put together

    Mini Blue Cheese Tartlets

    3 Reviews |  By Bergy

These are so simple and easy. You do most of the preparation ahead of time. The surprise is the healthy broccoli in the recipe. It works. Use scissors to finely snip the broccoli - It makes it so easy. I suggest using full cream sour cream but if you want it lower fat sub 2% cottage cheese for the sour cream - Be sure that you enjoy Blue cheese - especially warm blue cheese before making this recipe or you won't enjoy it!. The filling does rise a bit so do not over fill the shells. — Bon appetite.

    4 Reviews |  By Bergy

There are lots of Spinach, Tomato recipes but when I checked this one is a little different. I threw it together and liked the result. I say it is for 2 but that is if it is served with a salad and a roll. Hope you enjoy it. I like lite Havarti but use your favorite cheese. The hot spice is optional but it does give some pep to the recipe. An 8" pie plate works but it needs to have at least 1 1/2 " sides. I used an 8" x 6" casserole dish. I used adobo chili pepper for my "Hot" spice.

    Green Bean & Cauliflower Casserole

This is a very simple tasty recipe. I started out looking at a Kraft recipe but changed everthing including the veggies so there is no longer even a slight resemblance to it. Use Italian dressing or Sundried tomato. Any one will do. If you are not counting calories use a full fat dressing.
